2023

• 20 - 23.10.2023: Yavuz Mercan attended the 12th EFIS/EJI South Eastern European Immunology School (SEEIS2023) in Trogir (Croatia) and presented a poster on his work on NKT2 cells.

​

• 20.10.2023: CHIRON Kick-off Meeting

​

• 1.10.2023: Our new MSCA-SE grant CHIRON (#101130240) started. The main goals of this project are to better understand how tumours avoid the immune system and to make the tumours sensitive again towards cell death

​

• 7.9.2023: Aylin Yaşar successfully defended her MSc thesis. Congratulations to Aylin and we wish her all the best for her future endeavours.

​

• 29.08.2023: Zeynep Özge Ayyıldız successfully defended her PhD thesis. Congratulations to Dr. Ayyıldız. Luckily for us, Zeynep will stay and continue as a post-doctoral fellow in the laboratory.

• 20.8.2023: Welcome to Pumla Bhekiwe Manyatsi as a new PhD student focusing on bioinformatics approaches to immunology.

​

• 27 - 29.6.2023: The laboratory attended the virtual '2023 Principles of Mucosal Immunology Course' (SMI2023) by the Society for Mucosal Immunology's.

​

• 26.5.2023: Funded! The European Commission (EC) announced that our MSCA-SN application will be supported.

​

• 22 - 26.5.2023: EMBO YIP (European Molecular Biology Organization, Young Investigator Programme) Meeting in Milan (Italy). During this meeting (24.5.2023), Dr. Wingender presented our work on iNKT cell subsets.

​

• 1.4.2023: Our new Tubitak 1001 grant (#122Z963) started. The main goal of this project is to understand how gastrointestinal cancers can influence gd T cells in the omentum (a large adipose tissue within the human peritoneum).

​

• 22 - 26.2.2023: EMBO (European Molecular Biology Organization) sectoral meeting on immunology in Antalya (Turkey). During this meeting (23.2.2023), organized by Dr. Wingender, he also gave a presentation on our work on iNKT cells in the lung.

​

• 15.2.2023: Our manuscript “The Ca2+ concentration in vitro impacts the cytokine production of mouse and human lymphoid cells and the polarization of human macrophages”, led by Cem Eskiocak and Zeynep Ayyildiz was accepted by PLOS ONE. Congratulations to  Cem, Zeynep, and the rest of the team.

• 21.1.2023: Dr. Wingender presented IBG’s experience at Tubitak’s training course on the Horizon Europe ERA Chairs program.

​

• 9.1.2023: Yavuz Mercan successfully passed his PhD qualifying exam. Congratulations.

• 29.12.2023: Funded! Tubitak announced that our 1001 application will be supported.

 

 

2022

• 20 - 22.10.2022: 5th International Molecular Immunology & Immunogenetics Congress (MIMIC-V, Izmir, Turkey). Most lab members attended and Dr. Wingender chaired one session.

• 13.10.2022: Welcome to Dr. Jihana Achour as a new post-doctoral fellow.

• 27 - 30.9.2022: 7th TR-US Cytometry Workshop at the Izmir Biomedicine and Genome Center (IBG, Izmir, Turkey). Dr. Wingender gave a workshop on the preparation of multiparametric flow cytometric panels.
